What is the Difference between Canopy (Trackless) and Retractable (Tracked) Garage Doors?

The main difference in these 2 doors is the way that they open. A canopy door will lift up and over and will protrude about 1/3 of the way out when fully open, it has a big spring across the top and is generally not used for automation (you can automate at additional costing for a bow arm conversion, but this is generally not recommended unless you already have this type of door and are wanting to convert to electric opening).

Description: Canopy Door with steel frame Description: Springloaded Safe stop
Canopy Retractable

A retractable door retracts all the way back into the garage on adjustable tracks, suspended from the ceiling. It has 2 springs, one down either side rather than across the top. It generally has a larger frame to accommodate these side springs and can be made remote control by adding an operator.

What‘s Included With My New Garage Door?

You will be provided with the garage door with full installation instructions, the springs and gear to lift the door and the locking mechanism. Up & Over & side hinged doors are supplied as standard with a lock hole and handle unless otherwise requested. You do not get a frame unless specified with the exception of side hinged doors which come pre framed as standard. For rollers and sectional doors, these fit behind the opening and come with their own tracking, so don’t require any additional frame. A full fixing kit containing screws, bolts and brackets is included with the garage door; this varies depending on the manufacturer.

Do I Need a Frame with My New Garage Door?

Yes you will need a frame for all garage doors except sectional & roller doors. You can buy a new door and fix it to your existing timber frame or purchase a new frame with your door. Frames are available in primed or powder coated steel. Side Hinged Garage Doors are supplied with a factory fitted frame as standard.  Some Factory Outlet doors will also be provided with frames, where stated.

What's the Difference Between a GRP & an ABS Garage Door?

GRP garage doors are handmade using fibreglass strips bonded to a steel frame for added strength. GRP doors can be either gloss white or an authentic wood grain effect. They are meant to be an authentic looking timber replacement without the added hassle of the constant maintenance, heavy lifting required, and degradability of timber.   ABS garage doors are made from the same “bounce back” material as many car bumpers. They are only available in white and will match white uPVC doors and windows.

How Long Will I Have to Wait for My New Garage Door to Be Delivered?

Most of our door’s are on a 2-3 week lead time, but some doors, specifically some timber or sectional doors can take up to 8 weeks for delivery. Delivery usually takes between 10 and 28+ working days from your cleared funds being received depending on the style of garage door you have ordered/size/colour/finish etc, you can request a delivery update at anytime by calling us on FREE on 0800 404 8011. I’m in a Hurry, Can I Pay Extra to Get My Door Delivered Faster?

All the manufacturers operate on a first come first served basis to make it fairer for everybody. We can request a fast track delivery but there is no guarantee that they will be able to help.   If you are in a situation when you need a garage door urgently please contact us on 0800 404 8011 and we will see what we have in stock and when we could deliver to you, alternatively there may be somewhere that you could collect one from if you are able to.

Can I Have a Specific Delivery Date and Time Slot?

As garage doors are bulky and difficult to transport, most of our door deliveries will be delivered directly by the manufacturers on specialist vehicles and deliveries to your area are on a fixed weekly run therefore we cannot alter the delivery route. They will endeavour to call you with 24 hours notice for delivery and an hour before on the day. The driver will call you so he/she may be able to give you a morning or afternoon slot when they call with 24 hours notice.

Do I Need to Be There When My Garage Door Gets Delivered?

Garage Doors are large and heavy and someone will need to help the driver to offload the door safely.   All deliveries are carried out by a single driver so you must ensure someone is able to help offload the door. Deliveries will also require a signature, please check you have received the right items/sizes/colour etc as a signature proves delivery of the correct items.

Can I Pay on Delivery?

Full payment is required with your online or telephone garage door order. This is because we have made to door to order with the manufacturer and paid for this on your behalf.

Can I Collect My New Garage Door?

Yes, we welcome collections from any of the 10 branches of The Garage Door Company. These are; Brighton, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Leicester, Luton, Manchester, Nottingham, Reading, Sheffield and Southampton.

Am I Paying VAT on My New Garage Door?

Yes we are a VAT registered UK based company and so VAT is charged on your new garage door at the applicable rate in force at the time of sale, all our prices are shown INCLUSIVE of VAT.
